short history
according to the st.ives trust archive centre santa lucia and the adjacent house was built prior to 1894 by a local mariner called samual williams, and subsequently sold to a local widow for £250. many properties in st. ives were owned by the wives of mariners and was an indication of the perilous nature of an occupation at sea. the studio was added to the rear of the main property a few years later and rented out to the increasing numbers of artists, and notably thomas millie dow, one of the glasgow boys, making painting journies to st. ives.
later, during the sixties it was to gain some noteriety for its popular parties attended by the local cognitente, including barbara hepworth and others.
